Le autostrade a pedaggio italiane in linea con gli obiettivi UE

Rome, 27th of February 2006

ITALIAN TOLL MOTORWAYS KEEP THE PACE WITH THE EU OBJECTIVES

Italian toll motorways keep the pace with the European Union’s objective of halving the number of victims on European Motorways by 2010.

AISCAT, the Italian Association of Toll Motorways and Tunnels – chaired by Fabrizio Palenzona – as signatory of the European Road Safety Charter gives its contribution to meet the objective of improving road safety, as stated by the European Union.

In fact, taking into account the data of Italian toll motorways’ network, from 2001 to 2005 the number of killed in road accidents diminuished from 598 to 437, with a decrasing of almost 27%, thus confirming the trend registered in 2004 (-21.74 %) – already well ahead the whole National rate.

Moreover, if one takes into consideration, instead of the absolute value, the data related to the fatality’s rate weighted on the traffic – increased in the mean time – the afore mentioned decreasing surely overcomes 32%.

Therefore Italian toll motorways sector confirms its full engagement in guaranteeing road users’ safety.
